Al Jabr asked:
More specifically I would like to know America’s ranking after the French and Indian War and after the Gadsden Purchase in 1853.

I believe it was 59.
I’ll try the French and Indian War.
= The land occupied by present day U.S.A. in the French and Indian War 1754–1763 would have been three different places: (1) British America, (2) French America, and (3) Northern States of Spanish America.
The population of British America was approximately 1.2 million free people and 400,000 slaves. World population at that time was estimated to be in the 800 millions so it was roughly 0.2% of the world (vs 4.5% today). Overall it was fairly insignificant.
Ranking is difficult to say without a lot of research and guesswork since many of the states that we know didn’t exist. Very few kingdoms had done a census so an official numbers didn’t exist.
British America was certainly much smaller than England, Ireland, Spain, and France and the Holy Roman Empire. It was probably smaller than Switzerland. { Germany, Italy and Greece didn’t exist }. Europe was about 170 million.
Africa had a population estimated at about 100 million, but Europeans had not even seen much of the interior of Africa and there certainly weren’t any countries as we know them.
Asia had a population somewhat larger than 500 million.British America was certainly smaller than China, Japan, and Siam. India didn’t exist, but there probably were kingdoms that had more people. Indonesia didn’t exist but there were millions of people on the islands.
Hawaii was not even discovered by the Europeans but I don’t think the native population was ever estimated to be more than a million people. They had no written language so they never did a census.
Spanish and Portuguese America were about 17-18 million. British North America was much much smaller than Vice-royalty of New Spain (Mexico and Central America and a good chunk of present day USA). It was smaller than the New Kingdom of Granada (present day Columbia, Venezuela and Peru) Spanish America. I believe it was smaller than Portuguese America (present day Brazil).
