jtk15sc15 asked:
is there a way to see the distribution by rank. Like are there a lot of e4s or are there more e3s etc.
i guess im looking for the Corps in particular but the other branches i want to know too
What about officers. for example are there the most amounts of Captains currently or which one?

I don’t have a link or an authority on this… but I’ve seen it said many times it is “commonly known” that there are more LCpl’s in the enlisted ranks than any other rank.
That’s easily believed… Leaving boot, your increase to Pfc and LCpl are automatic. The next move, to Corporal, which is the lowest of the NCO ranks, requires effort, motivation, and performance. That means the flow of incoming LCpl’s is steady, while those leaving LCpl for Corporal are limited to those who earn it… which creates a pool of LCpl’s larger than the other ranks.
It’s E-3 because you have to be that rank for a longer period of time before you get promoted..ill look for the link in a sec..
I couldnt find the exact info you want but I know its on this site somewhere..You can read some very good info here such as the MOS breakdowns..
It seems that the distribution is different for each branch of the military. I’ll let you know the actual figures and the link of where I got the numbers.
AirForce:
E5-Staff Sergeant (25%)
Army:
E4-Specialist/Corporal (26.8%)
Navy:
E5-Petty Officer Second Class (24%)
Marine Corps:
E3-Lance Corporal (30%)
As for officers it’s the same across all branches. 0-3 (Captain/Lieutenant) is the most manned rank among officers.
I hope that helps and is exactly what you’re looking for!
