Back in World War II my old high school physics teacher's father was drafted in 1942 and came out a Master Sergeant in the Corps of Engineers in 1945. What a different world we live in today. Ok, yes you would have to go through OCS to become an officer. In 2-3 years, you'd probably be an E-4. Assuming you are in Army and want special forces, assuming you were good enough you could train to do that. However, my dad was drafted into the army in 68, and because so many people were dying and all that, he was E-5 in less than 2 years. Wow.
