What is the highest rank you can achieve in 2 or 3 years?

get rank
Drew H asked:

Say the draft was in effect, and you were drafted at the age of 18, serving until the age of 21: being shipped to Iraq directly after boot camp and training. What is the highest rank you can achieve? Will you have to be shipped back to officer school to become an officer?
Also it possible in that period of time to enter the navy seals or any other sort of elite squad instead?

Say you enlisted, since there is no draft and 18, were shipped to a war zone and served until you were 21, it is highly possible to be an E5 when you leave the service. In fact I went in in 1966, and made E5 in 2 years, but there was a lot more attrition then than now.

If you are drafted, chances are, then you didn’t want to join the military in the first place. Therefore you wont have the proper motivation to be elite. And the highest rank you could earn in that time is E4.

Well, since you’re assuming a draft, your question is VERY hypothetical. In the volunteer military, depending on your specialty, you could probably achieve SGT (E-5) in the Army in that time, if you worked very hard.

Most of the Special Forces units have rank and time-in-service requirements for volunteers. You’d be able to volunteer for most of them at the end of three years if you were good enough to make SGT that fast.

Yes, you’d have to go back to OCS to become an officer – and you’d need a college degree.

I made E-5 in 2/12 years, but I had my AA when I went in.

Seal Team training is a separate issue. You have to qualify and pass the training. You could be a Seal in three years, but what then?

You won’t go further than E-4.

if you work real hard and show that you want to move quick the sky is the limit, but you will have to prove yourself, and meet the reguirments.
i went from e1 to e5 in 25 months with no college, now keep in mind i was constantly going to any army school possible. just about everything you do in the army will get you points, and points are almost everything, you commander can give you up to 150 points, so you want to try and impress him or her without looking like a **** up. anyways bust your but and you could do it in as little as 18 months, see below.

To make E-5 in the Primary Zone, you have to have 3 years time in service.

To make E-6 in the Primary zone, you must have 7 years time in service.

They can promote people in the secondary zone earlier, but those promotions are for outstanding soldiers, clearly better than thier peers.

For secondary zone promotions, you must have ,

E-5 18 months time in service.
E-6 48 months time in service.

Advancements aren’t given away just for thanks. You have to do courses, pass practical skills tests, be recommended for advancement. and your talking going from an E-1 to OCS school in 2 years. LOL is the proper use of that lingo. I was in the NAVY for 23 years and was offered the warrant officer program. I did not want to be an officer for any amount of money or glory. You don’t just decide to be a SEAL. most classes (3) per year have over 80% attrition. That means dropped out or were dropped from training for physical or mental reasons. ( medical drop) Even if you decide to apply for the program you have to be a particular source rating, and it may still take a few years, plus you have to pass the physical. Oh yeah, You may be the toughest son of a ***** that you know, but if I don’t like you and I or one of my Friends is in your training team, YOU DON’T STAND A GHOST”S **** IN A WINDSTORM. HOOYAA
