get rank
Noelle asked:

I just finished my year as a high skool freshman, and my class rank is within the top 20% of my class. After next year I hope to be in the top 15%, and junior and senior year I aim to be in the top 10%. I want to go to a good college or university. My GPA is currently 3.7 and I’m wondering what colleges look for in terms of class rank.

GPA/Class rank is about 1/3 of what colleges look at in a student. The other 2/3 consist of Extra-curricular activities, and and SAT/ACT scores. So even if you’re number 1, or dead last, it’s not all a college will look at. Make sure you show colleges you’re a well rounded, involved student.

Yeah most colleges don’t even look at class rank much anymore. A lot of high schools have stopped giving out the awards for valedictorian and salutatorian, so it’s kinda falling to the way side. But it is important to keep your GPA up and make sure that you find lots of extracurricular activities. Colleges want someone that will work hard but still be able to contribute to the culture and community of their campus as well.
