The Star means you have a 1 Star Rank or higher on all Grand Prix Cups. That means you’ve got some of the highest rankings on all four modes (50cc, 100cc, 150cc, and Mirror 150cc) of the game and all cups (Mushroom, Flower, Star, Special, Shell, Banana, Leaf, and Lightning) have those rankings.

The Golden Wheel means that you always use your Wii Wheel. (100%)

If you have both, then great job! You’ve used your Wii Wheel for every cup in the Grand Prix and won it all! Congrats!

And that’s about it. Hope this helps! Later!

The difference between a star ranking and a golden wheel is this-

A star ranking symbolizes the fact that you have completed all races (50cc – Mirror Mode; all 8 cups) attaining at least a 1 star rank in each. This is a very good accomplishment considering ranks range from *** (triple star) to E.

A golden wheel symbolizes that you have played at least 50 Wi-fi races, and that you use the Wii Wheel 50% of the time you play Wi-fi. This is not a very good accomplishment considering the fact that over 40% of the people who play on Wi-fi have this. People who do this, but still have a * (one star) ranking, either use a Classic Controller, Gamecube Controller, or Wiimote and Nunchuck.

To sum it up, there is really no difference between having a * (one star) golden wheel and having just a * (one star). The only difference is that having a when you have a * (one star) golden wheel, it just means that you use a Wii Wheel at least 50% of the time you play (as long as you have played 50 Wi-fi races). I personally think that using a Wii Wheel is harder to do, so you might consider this a minor accomplishment.

I hope all this information helped!

To get a gold wheel with a star ranking, you must 100% use your wheel everytime and get star rank in all Grand Prix Cups.
