aenigma asked:

I’ve always heard that it’s important to purchase your own domain name for good search enging ranking, but I see plenty of good websites on the first pages of searches that don’t have their own domain name.
Should be *engine* not enging…sorry!

it depends on how close people are to the name of your website if you appear in their top results. Say your website is called cool places in france, and they search france website it will be in the bottom but say someone searches for cool france places it will be in the top. Most website also give you a tool to add properties so that it appears if they search, enter as many phrases as needed.

A domain name can make your site seems more professional and usually easier to remember. However, the ranking is mostly based on the page’s popularity and the content’s relevancy to the user’s search input.

Simply when at you the domain of the second or third level providers are interested in promotion of the services including on means of the offer of your site for the maximum pages in search. And when you independently buy the name even if your site completely index search systems, it will not be free-of-charge it on the first pages, it is the basic business of search systems.
