How does the gears of war 2 ranking system work?

cortesoseguera2 asked:

How does your rank go up and down? Are you ranked on every public match like wingman ect.? Or is it only elimination that counts? How do i rank up faster? Thankyou for taking your time in reading and answering my questions. : )

U gain rank by wins, which means you will go down if you lose alot. Leave a match and you go down even faster, for u quitters out there. And performance affects it a little.

No one really knows. I keep getting different answers. I somehow got it. Here’s the thing: I do not play as much as my friend who has more kills, better k/d ratio, more points, higher leader board rank. He still only has one stripe.I have more games lost than won and I seen to still have 2 stripes. The only thing I thinking at this point it, the number of games you won at some point. Meaning I have 14 matches won, my friend has 9. So I guess after a number like 10 wins you get your rank up.
BTW my brother lost 4 games in a row, he did not lose the 2nd stripe.

I Think You Rank By Wins & By Pionts But U Can Rank Up Faster Buy Killing Someone Who Has A Higher Rank Then You Becuse It Only Took Me 7 Public Matches To Get The 3 Stripe Gold…

The ranking system is like halo from what ive understood so far u rank up by wins AND points u could win 10 matches but in those ten u only made say like 1000 points all together u wont rank up u have to make major points in matches to rank i have a 3 stripe gold which only took me 10 matches to get because i scored over 2000 points in each match so from what ive understand so far u just basically have to score allot of points to rank that is my opinion but its worked out for me but do not quit maches even if someones else quits or it will count against your ranking up

A friend of mine lost a rank after scoring the 2nd best score in a Wingman game. The previous games he was first. I **** and stayed the same. I think it has to do with win/loss ratio, and like Halo 3, second place is also a win (In FFA).

you dont go up by wins. your rank will go up according to your kill/Death ratio.the higher ratio the higher rank u are. even if u loose.

ok this answer is straight from the forums. Your rank is dependant upon your status on the leaderboards. All your positions (warzone, execution, king of the hill, etc.) average out to place you in your rank.

My friend has won about 70 matches and lost 8 and is about 3000 on the leaderboards and has a kill/death ration of 2.3…. he has three gold bars so that answer is bullshit

no i believe he is right about the way it averages. yes your friend may be 3000 on the leaderboards, but it averages all of your stats it seems. so playing one game type over and over and over will get you ranks up slower than mixing up between match types.

Its not about where the person is on the leader boards. My friend on live is ranked in the 1000’s on leaderboards and im in the 3000’s and i have a higher rank then them. I agree with the guy above me, your rank is dependent on you kill/death ratio. If you die more your obviously gonna go down in rank, so try to play smart and get a positive kill/death ratio.

It’s certainly not about leader boards. My friend had been playing for 5 days and was in the 70-80 kills mark with a higher kills: deaths and win: loses ratio and he was still the first rank.

But my other friend had only played 2 matches and lost them both on his first day but he managed to rank up with less then 10 kills.

    Explain that please…

    TrueSkill..

Very confusing, nobody quite understands how it works…

Keep winning, keep killing, keep ranking up?

    Good luck!

I currently have the 3 silver stripes w/ a bar underneath (4th rank) and have found that playing variety helps the most. Once I obtained this rank, however, I lost it for the duration of a game due to a previous loss. I saw someone that was 46th in the world in annex and only 2nd rank. However, the few people that I have seen with star and lightning bolts (5th rank?) have played a substantial amount of games but they were not ridiculously good.

From this I can only infer 3 things:
    - don’t quit
    - try to win every match (with high points and k/d ratio)
    - play a variety of public gametypes and maps (switch playlists often)
