How does a soccer team move up in ranking?

get ranking
melissa asked:

Australia’s ranked 42 in the world but they’ve beaten japan & drawed with croatia to reach the round 16s, so does that mean they’ll move up in ranking?

Fifa ranking is based on games played and won. It is irrelevant who the games are against which is why the list is such a mess with the USA being in the top 10. It’s not because they’re good, its just because they’ve nothing better to do than play games against substandard teams!

    Yes,

a team moves up in the rankings due to a formula that takes into account: The result, the number of goals, the match importance (friendly, group stage, knockout stage, final etc.) territory strength. We’ll see the effects next month when they update the tables.

fifa ranks the teams on the way they play, the way they move, the type of goals they make, the combinations they make etc. everything, how good the goalie is, how good are the players, and what teams they beat and so on i think u get da point rite

    Yes they will move up.

But FIFA ranking is crap anyway. It means nothing.

FIFA ranking *****. they need to reprimand refs that make bad calls. and install instant replay. and stop time during non play, (injury time, free kick, corner kick) that will prevent loser players from stalling when they have a lead.
