How do civilian workers rank in the Air Force?

get rank
deon7388 asked:

I understand that civilian workers are not enlisted nor officers, but is there still a “rank” for them? I will be receiving my bachelors next year and will be pursuing my masters in Software Engineering. I want to know what I will start off making if I work as a civilian in the U.S. Air Force after my masters. Can anyone help?

No “rank” for civilians, do your research on USAJOBS for what you are interested and take a gander at the pay ranges.

Government workers have a GS number. The number roughly corresponds to rank.

For example, a senior doctor who hold the position of Chief of Medicine would be a Lt Col if he was military or a GS21 if civilian.

But you do not have to salute civilians, you do not have to call them sir, you do not have to obey their orders as you would an officer.

Civilian pay is similar to military pay in that Time in Service/ Time in Grade is the standard. If you apply for a job that is rated at a GS4 then you will make $24156.00 per year. Then as time goes on you will get increases or steps which are basically longevity pay increases. And depending on what part of the country you live in will have Regional Pay.
