Elect an NDP government to make the recession permanent. Recession is good for the environment. Greenhouse gas emissions are probably way down this year.
Canada is doing pretty good on that index. It would appear that only Sweden, Norway and Iceland seem to be doing better. Having been to Sweden, what I saw there that are not widespread in Canada yet would be variable tolls by traffic congestion within the city proper, bike sharing organizations, high speed rail links to airports, and color coded sub bins in the garbage pails in the hotel rooms. There’s bound to be more but those are the ones I noted on a cursory glance.
Perhaps the best way for Canada to better it’s rank is to distance itself culturally from the States.
Stop allowing corporations to clear cut the Boreal Forest, stop building dams for american energy hogs, minimize damage of Tar Sands.
