How do Soldiers,Marines,Sailors and people in the air force move up in rank. I know how to become an officer but how do you move up in rank. Example: Private to Private first class.
There are different branches like Armor, field artillery, infantry, military intelligence, etc.
What is the branch that gives you the most leadership and decision making situations in which you can prove your skill and rank up?
Combat Arms yes, but I would imagine an Infantry officer ranking up faster than an Artillery officer, etc.
Is Military Intelligence really leadership and decision making or is it just gathering vital information for commanders?
I am trying to figure out who was the first person to ever be in the marines and what was their starting rank
I understand that civilian workers are not enlisted nor officers, but is there still a “rank” for them? I will be receiving my bachelors next year and will be pursuing my masters in Software Engineering. I want to know what I will start off making if I work as a civilian in the U.S. Air Force after my masters. Can anyone help?
What rank is Flag-Level Officer, and why are they called that? I’ve heard the term occasionally but I can’t seem to find a definition. I know it’s obviously high ranking, I’m guessing 0-7’s and up?
Say the draft was in effect, and you were drafted at the age of 18, serving till the age of 21: being shipped to Iraq directly after boot camp and training. What is the highest rank you can achieve? Will you have to be shipped back to officer school to become an officer?
Also it possible in that period of time to enter the navy seals or any other sort of elite squad instead?
I’ve always wondered how officers in the military come to acquire the rank of General, as in 4 stars. What traits do they have in common? I’ve seen many people spend 20 years or more to acquire a rank and be unable to move beyond it.
I was wondering what rank most Army Officer’s reach before retirement. For the sake of argument lets say at 20 years as a commissioned Officer.
